MASTERFUL SNEEKERS project

Meesterlijk Sneekers was founded in the run-up to the year of the Cultural Capital Leeuwarden/Friesland 2018. The theme "Mienskip" inspired artist Imke Meester to develop an exhibition in which the Sneker community contributes to the project.
Due to the fame of the subjects, she lowers the threshold to the visual arts. The conversations about these paintings, which arise spontaneously between the spectators, confirm their interconnectedness. The entire project is recorded in book form containing all paintings and interviews with the subjects.
PORTRAIT of the MIENSKIP project

Simultaneously with an exhibition of realistically painted portraits, Imke created a contemporary work of art that contrasted in appearance and experience with the detailed traditional portrait paintings. During the term of the exhibition, a stylized portrait of the "de Mienskip" in 3D was built up using photo portraits of visitors. The double-sided printed portraits move around their axis in the air currents, subtly shaping the sculpture from other portraits every now and then.
QUIET FLIGHT project

In a collaboration with steel company Chessa and stonemasonry de Steenklip, Imke designs a work of art commissioned by funeral company Bakker van Bezeij, Scholts and Kloeg for the auditorium of a new funeral home "Memoriam" in Rotterdam. The assignment was to create a neutral object to which one can let one's gaze wander during the funeral ceremony. An image that matches various beliefs and views of life. It resulted in artwork with a bold construction. Heavy granite slabs combined with plexiglass were installed with steel cables as "floating tableaux".
